La Lorentine is a single-parcel Lirac cuvée from clay-limestone, sand and gravel soils that give the wine both structure and aromatic lift. Marcoux typically crafts La Lorentine as a Southern Rhône blend dominated by Grenache with Mourvèdre and Syrah. The 2013 season was uneven across the Rhône — a cool spring and late flowering followed by a warm late summer — but well-managed parcels in Lirac achieved even ripening and terroir expression. Expect concentrated blackberry and dark cherry, floral violet lift, garrigue and peppery spice, with a firm mid-palate and rounded tannins: medium-to-full body and very food-friendly. La Lorentine is produced in modest quantities compared with larger appellations and is offered at attractive price-point for its quality.
